TOPIC:
The different of character performance between live-action movie and animation
ABSTRACT:
The character performance in live-action and animation refers to a character’s acting style and method in a film. As the most mainstream film art on the big screen, live-action films and animations are inextricably linked with each other. In recent years, due to the continuous progress of animation technology and the dominant position of 3d films in theatrical cartoons, the pursuit of animated films to simulate the realistic effects of live-action films has become increasingly fierce. But the narrowing differences between the two are controversial. Some people believe that the distinction between animated characters and live action is due to the limitations of technology in the beginning of animation, and now it is understandable to let animated characters performance move closer to live action. Some people also believe that animation characters and live performance have insurmountable laws and principles, and a convergence will only backfire. Based on these arguments, this report will investigate and analyze character performance in animated films and live-action films, and compare it with other forms in an attempt to reach a final conclusion.

ABSTRACT:
In recent years, due to the continuous progress of animation technology and the dominant position of 3D films in the animation market, the pursuit of realistic effect of animated films is becoming more and more intense. With the emergence of the motion capture technology, animated films and live-action films are facing convergence in character performance, the similarity between the two has reached a new peak. But whether motion-capture technology should be used in animated film production is controversial. Some people points out that the difference between animated characters and live-action performances stems from the technical limitations at the beginning of animation production, and the emergence of motion capture makes animated characters more realistic, which will also greatly reduce the pressure of animators, while others argues that animated films and live-action films have insurmountable rules and principles, replacing animated character performances with live-action performances will only backfire. Based on these arguments, this report investigates and analyzes the differences in character performance between animated films and live-action films, and understands the current situation of the use of motion capture technology in films, and finally draws a conclusion.
